Next-Gen PONs & Fiber Access: A Market Perception Study

This report presents results of a major survey probing network operator opinions on emerging next-generation passive optical network (PON) technologies – new developments that could boost both FTTH and other fiber access services. The survey polled 99 professionals working with 72 different network operators, investigating opinions in three main areas: deployment plans and applications for next-gen PONs; anticipated technology and implementation challenges; and perceptions of leading equipment vendors. The survey also probed key underlying demand issues, including historic and expected growth in bandwidth demand. This report also reviews the key standards governing next-gen PONs, examining their main features, advantages, and drawbacks [HEAVY READING].
